The story of Thomas Edison is quite interesting. He didn’t necessarily look at failure as an end game – he saw it as an opportunity to learn something new and grow. With a growth mindset it is quite evident that there are many possibilities available. As teachers it can be hard at times to model this and show the human factor of failure. Sometimes we can feel that it is important to be in control and have all the answers. The reality is that we actually don’t have them all. And it is totally okay! You see when we are able to say that we don’t know but then follow it up with that we are willing to find out, it puts our knowledge and skills into an area of growth. We recognise that through things not working sometimes, it is not the end of the world. The disaster scale is kept under control.
