Quote of the Week – Stretched Thinking
Learning should involve some sort of point of uncomfortable stretching. The stretching should then hold at a point as well, so that the consolidation and reinforcement can take place. Like an elastic band, sustained stretching can cause the band to fail – but if we reinforce it, adding to the band, then it will get stronger under it’s new dimensions. By building layers we allow the learner to become stronger in their understanding. It’s through the layers that the dimensions expand. What we should be doing is taking students into new frontiers – letting them experience their learning in different ways to build stronger understandings. Stretching, although initially may be uncomfortable, is necessary for the learner to grow.
