EMG Tip of the Week – Humour Matters

They say laughter is good for the soul. It is also good for the classroom. Students need to be able to enjoy the classroom and humour is a great way for you to be relatable. There are some golden rules though that need to be thought of for the use of humour – making sure that it is not aimed at specific people or even worse, children. The other golden rule to remember is that you are employed as a teacher or educator not a comedian. Humour should not necessarily be the sole focus for your classroom. It’s a great skill to have and a tool to use sparingly.
